In the morning

"Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You." Psalm 143:8

I like my mornings quiet. I have a routine, even now that I work from home, that I seem to follow. Get up, pour my coffee, pour my cereal, sit at the computer to check emails & blogs & enjoy my coffee in relative quiet. My wonderful husband knows & respects my love of the morning quiet. If he is listening to stuff on the computer, he wears headphones. Once I'm done my coffee, my computer reflections, my blogging or reading, then I carry on with the day but I most enjoy that hour of quiet. Its not that I'm not a morning person. On the contrary, I love mornings, I love being up & about before most of the world. I'm just not that bubbly, loud, chattery type that most people associate with 'morning person'. I want to slap those types for invading my quiet time. But now that I'm working from home, I don't deal with that much anymore.

Lots of things can easily throw me off my morning & ruin the routine or quiet. For example, if we ran out of coffee (it happens) then my morning would be skewed. Or if I slept in & had to rush to get to work I would be easily irritated. I hate being late for anything. And well, sometimes we all just wake up on the wrong side of the bed.

That's why this verse stood out at me this morning. Not that I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Everything about my quiet morning has been great. But even when the mornings are wrong or not quiet, I don't have to jump into 'bad mood mode'. (though it can be the easier way out) "cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning...to know the way in which I should walk" God's already got our day planned out. And if we take the time to listen, we'll see that the way He's lovingly planned it is always better than what we could plan if we listen to ourselves.

  1. That is such a wonderful verse. I love the last part "for I lift my soul to you" That is such a wonderful verse to pray to God. I also like my quiet time when I get up. I really don't like to have people to talk to me or interrupt my time when I first get up.

  2. Me and you both Miss Becks - I need my 'quietude' in the a.m... its when I check in w/ God and ask Him to guide my day. If, for any reason that gets interrupted then I can usually look back and find that somehow I skipped over that part...

So, I'm back! And I have crunched some books and only one out of like 6 meets our 'good read' standard, so I've set it aside for ya, along w/ your coffee press as our Mommy found TWO at yard sales ... two BIG ones AND two little ones for the van... LOL... trust me, if you ever need ANYTHING you just axe my Mamma and she will find it for $5 or less! LOL... gently used and loved, of course, but still!

So, we shall have to connect soon, let me know what's good for you and I'll consult w/ my Miles. I know he has some 'teacher training' days coming up, so we could hang?

    Missed ya like crazy!

  4. Oh you wouldn't want me around in the morning. I'm a chatty one first thing. Stuff spinning around in my head all night comes spilling out! Yikes - drives my poor hubby nuts. I slow down a bit during the day though!

You're so right about God's Word causing us to hear his loving-kindness... he will show us the way to go.

Sorry, haven't been visiting much. My cable has been down, finally figured out what or should I say who has been messing with it... squirrels! Can you believe those little critters chewed through?

Anyhow, thanks for the info. about writing for the magazines. I was away at the Jersey shore with my family, no internet where we stayed. We had a nice trip. Lots of sun and sand. Now we're off for another jaunt upstate before the boys go to school next week.

Enough for now... I'm making this a full length post!

P.S. As always love the pic. Don't look too close at my new one on my blog. It's kind of blurry... kids moving around and such.

    Have a great weekend!

  5. Hi Becky,

I do love my morning solitude and especially time outdoors in the early morning before any of the busyness disturbs the peacefulness of it all. Those days are somewhat passed for the time being since I am a single mom to my two beautiful little girls but it will come again and until then I will enjoy it's replacement, the joys of motherhood. Thanks for your comments on my blog :)

  8. I love that verse, too! I've been trying to read the Word every morning . I'm going through the book of Acts. I like it because it reads like a Novel and Luke is a great author.

But when school starts, and I have to get up early to return to work...I hope I don't get out of whack!
