I Made The Choice

Masai children in Tanzania

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger & thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." Matthew 5: 3-6

It took me most of the weekend, but I finally chose a child! After getting many opinions & skipping back and forth between their two websites, I chose a child from Compassion Canada instead of World Vision. I highly recommend both of them but Compassion had a bit of an edge in the opinions of those I asked so I went with it. I don't think I'm going to be disappointed.

I chose a little boy from Tanzania, age 5, named Vicktor. He had the biggest eyes I'd ever seen & his little photo just lept off the page at me. I can't wait to get my sponsorship package in the mail.

Many things ran through my head after I made the official choice. The biggest thought being "will I be able to meet him one day?". I chose a Tanzanian child because if I do ever get back to Africa one day, Tanzania will be the country I most likely visit. In Tanzania, there is the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater, Mount Kilimanjaro, the Masai Mara and Nakuru National Park, just to name a few reasons to visit.
I guess the biggest risk with a venture such as this is the fact that, although I am donating to improve his health & welfare, there are many factors that could lead to him getting sick or dying that are outside of anyone's control but God.

This is why the biggest thing I can do for this chosen child is PRAY for him. I may never get to meet him here on earth, but I can pray that we may meet in heaven. Compassion is heavily involved in not only physical needs but spiritual needs of the child & his community. He already attends some form of Sunday School, as do all of the children on the Compassion program. They learn about the Bible and heaven & Jesus' love for them. What's more important than their soul?

  3. Oh Becky! My heart spills over with happiness for your commitment. I know, personally, that sometimes, when Miles and I have a dinner out - it comes to mind, that for less monies than our meal costs, a little child can be blessed. I will pray for your little boy! Congratulations.
