The Great Commission

"Go into all the world and preach..." Mark 16:15

Africa! Always on my mind! An obsession or something I'm waiting for? I just don't know yet! I think about going there constantly. I think about the people there constantly. I think about our sponsor child Vicktor & wish we could do more.

I'm so thankful for the internet that allows us glimpses anywhere in the world. Last night I spent time browsing Africa's orphanages sites. There are just so many! Its overwhelming. And almost every site has a sponsorship program much like Compassion and World Vision do. You can sponsor a child there thru the orphanage they live at. Or you can go & volunteer at any number of them. I just spent the evening looking at them, wondering if its something we would want to do some day.

Also the ships. Mercy Ships and OM Ships. I had a chance when I was in Bible College to spend some time with one of Operation Mobilisation's literature ships while it was in port. It was fascinating. We spent an afternoon building crates & pallets for them as well (the first time I ever stepped on a nail - it went right through the sole of my boot) So because I was familiar with them already, I spent some time on the OM site, checking out their needs, where they are going, etc. These ships are mostly deliverers of good news. Like a floating library of Christian literature. They amazed me with their stories of how God provided for them at different ports!

I think about family members & friends I know that serve in the mission field or that have served. I think about the wonderful people who serve in their own communities, sometimes that is the hardest place of all.

Have you ever had a missionary experience/ a mission trip/ or a story of servanthood for Christ that you would like to share? Please share with me!

I draw your attention friends to the Great Commission, one of the last things Jesus said on earth to us: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." Mark 16:15 Please pray for our fellow missionaries as they obey God's commandments!

  1. Beck - you have a tender heart towards God and spreading His mercy towards others.

I don't have a missionary story exactly, but I think you'll be encouraged about the power of prayer in regards to the three Indonesian missionaries recently released.

I just wrote about it on my blog. I'm thanking the Lord in more ways than one!

Thanks for your thoughtful and insightful posts my friend.

    Blessings today!

  2. Miles and I are hoping to sponsor a second child this upcoming year, and our dream would be to go visit the one we have! It feels right to help - and sometimes I believe its harder to do it right at home because its so real - nothing exotic or exciting at all, but needed, nevertheless.

  3. Missions is something that has been on my mind for the past year. A year ago I went on my first mission trip and really did not know what God was about to show me. I feel God leading me into missions. I am reading a book called Revolution in World Missions by K.P. Yohannan. He is the founder and international director of Gospel for Asia. This was a free book that I just keep seeing on the internet on different websites. I just felt this was something I needed to read. It is a great book. Missions is on my mind all the time now. I really don't specific story about my mission trips except that what I seen in the village there in Mexico changed me. It changed me forever.
Thank you for such a great post.
    God Bless,
    Janice

  6. World Vision and Compassion is doing a lot of good in India. So many children are able to go to school because of them. I used to translate children 's letters for Compassion...from Hindi to English.

I saw a program about Mercy ships on God TV and was very impressed, they are doing a lot of good and the OM ships too. We had church members on them
