Before there was earth: Proverbs 8

"I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth. ... Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth." Proverbs 8:23, 25

Do you ever wonder what kept God busy before he created the earth? It may seem like a silly question, especially because we, as mortals, have a hard time comprehending eternity. But God was there, full of this wisdom that Proverbs speaks of, long before He ever formed the earth.

Earth's time span is probably just a blip in the spectrum of eternity. Every aspect was forethought, and everything that is to come is pre-planned. So the concept of "always was and always will be" is a little hard for my brain to comprehend.

I love the imagery in this book of Proverbs, as it describes that wisdom has been with God throughout eternity. "When He prepared the heavens, I was there" "when He established the clouds above" "Then I was beside Him" "For whoever finds me finds life."

  1. I agree entirely Becky - we don't really know what time really is - in God's eyes, measured against what we think it is - though we do know, as Pastor Ed mentioned, we know the time of our Lord's coming is closer than ever!

I look forward, with delight, to your company tomorrow!

  2. That's a good question. I don't often think about God and what he did BEFORE earth and us.

But he was there. And he is with us now. And he'll be there in the future. He's all around us.

That is a nice picture! What a beautiful blue lake.

  3. Oh...one more thing...I just got caught up reading your blog. How exciting about the Kayak!!! I've tried it before, but I'm no professional. And I'd freak out if it tipped over!

We have a big blow up raft with sides. It comes with oars. I've taken it out on some alpine lakes in Northern California...with a book and a hat! Oh the peace I feel when I'm on the water! When I'm done reading, I lean back and stare up at the clouds and the craggy mountains. It's a great place to talk with God.

    Have fun with your Kayak!!

  4. Yes that is hard to comprehend what God did before us humans. My mind will hardly let me think of time before earth. Your post are always so good.
I have been busy this week. They keep asking me to work more and more and I am so tired when I come home.
And tomorrow I am having another injection in my back. I will work all morning then have the procedure at 1pm. Hopefully this one will last longer.

  7. Barb - yes, I think its closer than ever & its pretty exciting!

Sharon - I like the sound of paddling out & reading a book. Not sure if I can do that in a kayak but maybe once I get braver.

Janice - its hard to say no sometimes when you're asked to work so much...but it sounds like your back needs a break from you being on your feet.

Thanks Shona - I love how its getting me into a routine of reading my Bible specifically!

Thanks LGS - I'm enjoying it too.
