"He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given." ~Proverbs 19:17
Who are we that we can 'lend' anything to God? This verse has always struck me as amazing. Its almost like if we have compassion for those less fortunate we are doing God a favour. But I think its more we are being used by God for this compassion & that God's way of thanking us is blessing us for showing compassion on those who need it.
I use the word compassion because I urge you to consider lending to the Lord and check out sites like Compassion Ministries at either www.compassion.com or www.compassion.ca This is the organization we sponsor our boy from Tanzania, Vicktor. How precious are the children who need our help.
I will be on a teeny bit of a blog hiatus for a couple days as I am going away with a friend for the long weekend here in Canada. I will catch up a couple days of Proverbs as soon as I can upon my return.
Prov.19;17 is my favourite verse too. And we 've experienced the more we give to the poor and needy the more God blesses us. Have a good restful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe name of the Lord is a strong tower. often when tense I don 't know how to pray I just take the name of Jesus
Have a wonderful time away!
ReplyDeleteWe sponsor a young boy in Mexico through Compassion Ministries.
God is carving a compassion in me for the homeless, due to the situation our son is in. It's nice--in a way--to know that God uses the trials that we go through--to equip us to bless others.
Hi Becky,
ReplyDeleteJust visiting via Amrita's site.
I like the way you have structured your posts around Proverbs.
What a moving post. This really spoke to me. In the past week I have decided to go on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic to an orphanage. Everything is still in works but I think God has told me I will go. Thanks for your post.
