When You Roam: Proverbs 6

When you roam, they will lead you; when you sleep, they will keep you; and when you awake, they will speak with you. ~Proverbs 6:22

In the above verse, "they" refers to "your father's command" and "the law of your mother". I was very blessed to grow up in a loving family with amazing parents. (And yes, mom reads my blog) Our household was far from strict but we had rules & instructions & lessons from our parents which molded us & stretched us as we grew.

I think parenting in this day & age is getting more and more difficult. Its hard to 'shelter' a child from the evil this world is exploding with and yet, completely sheltering them is not the answer either. How can a child be prepared to face the world if they know nothing of it. The fine balance between knowing right from wrong and completely avoiding all wrong is a thin line.

Eventually, we all have to face the world at one point or another. When we finally get our chance to "roam", we will need a solid foundation from which we can discern right & wrong. If you have been so blessed to learn this discernment from your mother & father, you will, as the verse says, be lead by this wisdom where ever you go. It will be your nature to know it, when you sleep and when you wake and where you roam!

Yesterday I did some roaming myself. In the morning I got to try out my new kayak. It was fantastic. I loved it. Wanted to go out again this morning before church but my shoulders were a bit sore from yesterday. I also went out driving for photo opportunities because it was such a beautiful day and headed back to Spotted Lake. One of my fave photo spots!

  1. I love the photos! How blessed you are to have a good relationship with your parents! I feel blessed also. My mom and dad are a wonderful treasure.

My 19 year old son left tonight. He doesn't have much money, and I don't know what he will do. I've watched him roam away from God and make wrong decisions that could affect his life forever. Thank goodness the Good Shepherd WILL go after him and keep an eye on him...I pray.

  2. Beck, please lets pray for your freind Sharon's son?

I'm so glad you got to meet Lauren and her family this morning at church... she is the young lady I was saying that was so 'poised' and intellegent for her age. She's an impressive child! I bet you shared about your African interests. Seems you already have grown 'roots' in the Church... we are blessed to have you. You're getting so popular we will have to catch up on our Wednesdays (LOL!!!)

Wonderful pics of Spotted Lake! it's so changeable! I will be thinking of you tomorrow, hope it goes 'quick and painless' for you.

  4. Praying for Sharon and her son too! It's so hard to let go... as a parent you just want to see your children make good decisions that will keep them from harm.

I heard Ted Tripp speak recently, pastor and author of Shepherding a Child's Heart. He impressed on me the importance of showing our kids the "Glory of God".

I'm thankful too like you Becky for parents who gave me a good foundation in the Word, no matter where we roam, the Lord has a way of bringing His children home.

My hubby roamed for many years... from his teens until he was thirty or so, but God eventually brought him back. His mom (a widow) and pastor and his pastor's wife, along with my grandparents (they all went to the same church at one time) never gave up praying for my Jim... We married when he was thirty-two. I was a twenty-eight-year-old widow.

  5. I've never seen a body of water like that before...incredible!

I'm glad your family life helped shape you in such a positive way. It sounds like you have good 'roots' on which to grow your own family!

I also wanted to let you know I 'tagged' you for a Meme if you haven't done it, I'd love to read your responses to it.

  6. Sharon - glad you have good parents also. Praying for your son indeed. God is faithful!

Barb - It was such a wonderful Sunday. Great to meet Lauren. Beautiful girl - can't wait to visit with them again!

Karla - its one of my fave places to photograph!!

Susan - I am terrified to start a family in this day & age. I can only hope that if I do, I can lead by a godly example! Praise God for the prayers of the faithful. A man prayed for my grandfather for over 20 years till he came to know the Lord a few months before he died of cancer. Praise God for this praying man & praise God that I'll see my gramps in heaven!

KP- woohoo - I'll head over to your site to check it out! Too fun!
